Doctoral Research

Doctoral research (PhD) is underway with the Centre for Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Manchester.

The aim of this research is to capture the experiences of ethnic minority (non-native Chinese) injecting drug users in accessing injecting equipment within Hong Kong. A primary objective is to investigate the micro-settings and mechanisms for access and to gain an understanding of the social and cultural settings in which these instruments are used.  By exploring the experiences of ethnic minority [non-native Chinese] IDUs in a city where Needle Exchange Programmes do not exist and sterile injecting equipment must be purchased from pharmacies, this study can potentially provide contextual data that can inform focused interventions in Hong Kong.
